Misogi Pond
A sacred pond where the gods were born
Misogi Pond, located about a 5-minute walk from Eda Shrine, is said to be the place where, according to the Kojiki, Izanagi no Mikoto purified himself in the underworld, and it is said that when he washed his left eye, Amaterasu Omikami was born; when he washed his nose, Susanoo no Mikoto was born; and when he washed his right eye, TSUKUYOMI no Mikoto was born.
The gaping hole in the pine forest is still covered with pure water, and from May to September, approximately 4,000 water lilies bloom across the pond, adding a touch of mysticism to the area.
The area around the resort is a treasure trove of stories originating from Hyuga mythology. Together with a "myth storyteller," you will visit power spots such as the Misogi Pond, said to be the birthplace of the myth, and Eda Shrine.
It comes with a charm from Eda Shrine, which enshrines Izanagi-no-Mikoto, the god who created the country.
