Champion Trophy
The champion trophy, which has been used since the 25th tournament in 1998, is made by the top-class crystal brand "Waterford." It features intricate motifs inspired by the tournament and the Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort, engraved onto the trophy.
The original trophy from before 1997 is also on display, with the names of past champions engraved on its base. Why not take a commemorative photo and feel like a champion yourself?
List of past winners
From Johnny Miller, the winner of the inaugural tournament in 1974, to other top professionals who have graced the tournament's history, a lineup of great players will be featured.
Champions' Room in the clubhouse displays panels of past winners. There's also a large panel near the tee box of the first hole at Takachiho, introducing past winners.

For each tournament, a poster is created featuring the previous winner and the tournament logo. It's characterized by a dynamic design that builds anticipation leading up to the tournament.

The unsung hero
At the 48th tournament in 2021, 10 members from PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB participated as house caddies, supporting the players' performance.
Professional golfer Ryosuke Kinoshita, who achieved an excellent result, finishing in a tie for second place, just one stroke behind the leader, also had a house caddy accompanying him.
In the tournament's history, there have been 15 victories with the assistance of a house caddy. Incidentally, most of these victories occurred up to the 18th tournament in 1991.
In recent years, it has become common for top professionals to have a dedicated caddy, but it's surprising to learn that even star players from overseas didn't have dedicated caddies back then.
Course management conducted throughout the year
Dunlop Phoenix Tournament brings together players from all over the world. To ensure that world-class play can be brought to life, the job of PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB 's dedicated greenkeeper is to meticulously prepare the course to its absolute best condition.
With the tournament in November approaching each year, course maintenance begins in the spring. Aeration work (loosening the soil to make it easier for grass roots to take hold, absorb nutrients more easily, and improve drainage) is carried out on the course to prepare for the rainy season.
The most critical period is summer. We constantly monitor the condition of the grass, including applying preventative treatments frequently.
From late September, we carry out "overseeding" to switch to winter grass. From there, we diligently mow the grass repeatedly to prepare a beautiful turf for the tournament.
The beginning, and evolution
When PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB first opened, in order to create a course capable of hosting major tournaments, they imported Tiffton grass, a type of Bermuda grass, from the continental United States and sowed it on the fairways and roughs.
Since then, throughout the year, course management techniques have continued to improve and evolve, including soil improvement, redesign of the greens, and the installation of green fans on all greens, all aimed at achieving higher quality greens.

We selected Tiffton grasses that had adapted well to natural environments and overseeding, and through research and cultivation, our branded grass, "Phoenix Turf," was born.
Due to its rapid growth rate and resistance to foot traffic, it is a suitable grass for sports fields and is used in athletic fields and parks throughout Miyazaki Prefecture.

The History of PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB
The beginning in Greenland (1969-)
After the war, as the economy developed, the number of golf courses gradually increased, and in 1957, the first television broadcast of a golf game made the sport widely known to the public. In the 1970s, with the arrival of the high-growth period, large-scale integrated resort construction began here in Miyazaki as well. One of these is Phoenix Greenland (Phoenix Integrated Leisure Center).
A history with Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (1974-present)
In 1974, the year the golf boom brought the number of domestic professional golf tournaments to over 50, the first Dunlop Phoenix Tournament was held. PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB continues to evolve, with continuous improvements made to the turf and bunkers, as well as the preservation of Black Pine Forest. The bunkers use sand made from crushed Philippine marble. The greens are bentgrass, and the fairways and roughs use Tiffton in the summer and perennial ryegrass in the winter, allowing you to fully enjoy the feel of these rare Western-style grasses in Japan. In April 2014, PHOENIX SEAGAIA RESORT was designated a "National Training Center Competition-Specific Strengthening Base Facility (Golf)" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This designation applied to the entire resort, demonstrating that not only were PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB and academy among the best golf environments in Japan highly regarded, but also the training facilities, accommodations, and the overall environment of Miyazaki itself were highly praised.
Further evolution and the future of golf
Everyone in the Japanese golf world felt that internationalization was essential for further raising the level of Japanese golf. Thanks to the understanding and efforts of many people involved, Dunlop Phoenix Tournament was born. This sentiment reached the legendary Jack Nicklaus, who, together with John Montgomery, began creating a truly international tournament. It continues to this day and has developed into a world-class tournament that attracts the world's top players every year. Dunlop Phoenix Tournament is so high-level that it is said to be "an overseas tournament despite being a domestic one." The first Japanese player to break through this barrier was Tsuneyuki Nakajima in 1985. From 1994 to 1996, Masashi Ozaki achieved three consecutive victories, and in 2000, Shingo Katayama, riding the momentum of his title win, miraculously came back to become the money leader. In 2002, Kaname Yokoo won, beating Tiger Woods, and in the 2005 tournament, although he lost, he competed against Tiger in a playoff, showcasing a performance that is etched in golf history.
