Aoshima Shrine is the setting for the famous myth of Urashima Taro and Yamasachihiko, and is said to be a good place for finding love, as it is also the place where Yamasachihiko and Toyotamahime were united. This shrine, which enshrines the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, as its main deity, was founded over 2,000 years ago. As Emperor Jimmu's parents, Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto and Tamayorihime, are also enshrined here, there is a constant stream of worshippers who come to pray for safety in the home, safe childbirth, and fertility, as well as victory and safety on the roads.
The approach to the shrine, lit by lanterns, has a mystical atmosphere, and just walking there makes you feel as if your mind and body have been purified.
