Amanoiwato Shrine
This shrine enshrines the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami, as its main deity.
This is the location of the "Amanoiwato myth," in which Amaterasu Omikami hid in a cave called Ama-no-Iwato.
The West Shrine, which enshrines the Ama-no-Iwato cave as its sacred object, and the East Shrine, where Amaterasu Omikami first resided after emerging from the cave.
Also, upstream of the Nishi-Hongu Shrine is Amenoyasugawara, where the eight million gods gathered to consult with Amaterasu Omikami about how to get her to come out of the Ama-no-Iwato cave.
