Miyazaki Shrine
A shrine dedicated to the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, affectionately known as "Jinmu-sama" by the prefecture's residents
This shrine enshrines the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, as its deity, and its founding dates back more than 2,000 years.
The parents of Emperor Jimmu, Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto and Tamayorihime, are also enshrined here, so there is a constant stream of worshippers who come to pray for safety in the home, safe childbirth, and fertility, as well as victory and safety on the roads.
The approach to the shrine, lit by lanterns, has a mystical atmosphere, and just walking there makes you feel as if your mind and body have been purified.
It is also a popular first shrine visit spot, with over 250,000 visitors visiting every year during the first three days of the New Year.
