Eda Shrine [Miyazaki City]

The phrase "Awakihara in Odo, Tachibana, Hyuga, Tsukushi," which you always hear during Shinto rituals, refers to this very place, known as the birthplace of misogi and norito. Enshrining Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, Japan's oldest deities, the shrine is visited by many worshippers praying for good fortune. One of the two sacred trees, a large camphor tree located halfway along the approach, has a knob at its base that is said to grant good fortune, and many worshippers have touched it and found it smooth.

Hitotsuba Inari Shrine [Miyazaki City]

Hitotsuba Inari Shrine [Miyazaki City]

There are many Ichiyo pines with only one needle (usually there are two) scattered throughout the temple grounds. This is the origin of the place's name Ichiyo. If you search the grounds, you will find a single pine needle among the branches, and it is said that finding one brings good luck. There is also a legend that about 350 years ago, when the shrine was in danger of being swallowed up by a tsunami after a major earthquake, a white rabbit kicked the waves and saved it. There is a sculpture depicting this behind the main hall, and many people visit as it is believed to bring good luck and protection from evil.
